The Earth’s geoid

The geoid is essentially a map of where the Earth’s gravity is all equal: if you flooded the entire planet with water, this is the shape it would if gravity were the only thing shaping this global ocean’s shape has been measured to high accuracy using the ESA’s GOCE satellite. Credits: ESA/HPF/DLR
