“In the review that we have done in the last few days, we are calling our attention to a significant wave of migration (from Venezuela) towards the city of Quito, towards the entry points into the country. And it is a real concern of the entire medical team, of all Venezuelan health professionals in Ecuador, the negative impact that is occurring based on the results of the elections in Venezuela.“

“I really hope that we as the Venezuelan community in Ecuador, who have been blessed to be welcomed and protected by the Ecuadorians, for which I am very grateful and thankful from the bottom of my heart... That we can return to our homeland and rebuild a country practically devastated, devastated by ambition and by a non-government, because this is not government, it is called government, it is a de facto government by a number of thugs who are those who are mounted in the High Command of Venezuela, unfortunately that is what is happening to us.“

STORYLINE:
The president of a non-governmental organisation based in Ecuador that helps Venezuelan migrants has warned of a “significant wave“ of migrants headed towards Ecuador following the disputed presidential election.
“From the review we have done in the last few days, a significant wave of migration towards the city of Quito and towards the entry points to the country has caught our attention,“ said Egleth Noda, at a briefing in Quito organized by representatives of Venezuelan migrant associations in Ecuador.
The leader of political movement ’Construye’, Luis Fernando Ayala, which is a progressive political campaign group in Ecuador, was also present.
Ayala had been invited to Venezuela by opposition leader María Corina Machado as an observer of the electoral process.
Ayala stated the elections of July 28 were a fraud; “And what happened last Sunday, in full view and patience of the whole world, is a fraud in all its forms. The Venezuelan people demonstrated overwhelmingly in favor of the change represented by the united candidacy of today’s President-elect Edmundo González Urrutia“.
The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry in Quito announced on Friday in a statement that “in respect for the will of the Venezuelan people,“ the country recognises candidate Edmundo González as the victor.
The move comes after “the serious democratic crisis“ in that Latin American nation and in the face of “the evident manipulation of the results of the electoral process.“
