Sabaneyev - Piano Sonata, Op. 15 “In Memory of Scriabin“ (Schäfer)

Sabaneyev, a great friend of Scriabin’s and a writer of books about him, is one of the most grandiose, but terrifyingly obscure representatives of the great Russian mystical musical movement. His Sonata is incomparable; taking its cue from Scriabin’s passionate and transcendent music, it is dedicated to this giant, a monumental figure of great mystical romanticism. Where Scriabin illuminated the soul with colour and ecstasy, Sabaneyev succeeded in establishing a sublime, dramatic and almost nebulous world. In the same way as with the “Passacaglia and Fugue on the Themes of the Apocalypse“, this author and composer has given birth to an eternal pillar of music, opening his gaze on eternity and on the territory covered in mists, still unexplored by Scriabin. Pianist : Michael Schäfer
