Every other person in town is assigned a number. Anna receives a number but Gunnar doesn’t, which means they have a chance of being matched together again. When the lottery starts, Gunnar is matched with a young man named Friðrik who is starting his first relationship. Anna is matched with the older Brynjolfur. “Training week“ starts where Anna and Gunnar have to teach their new spouses how to love. This proves very difficult to Gunnar who isn’t able commit to his new relationship with Friðrik. He runs away and tries to get Anna to join him before the townspeople catch him. The town’s priestess gives both of them an ultimatum: Commit to the new relationship or spend seven years in a gigantic mythical egg. Much to Gunnar’s horror, Anna agrees to commit to her relationship with Brynjólfur.
