Hero nurses rush to protect babies during Taiwan quake

When the magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit Taiwan on Wednesday, nurses at Ma Cherie Maternity Centre in Taipei didn’t think twice – disregarding their own safety, they rushed to the babies in their care, holding the cribs together to prevent the infants being injured. The nurses have been hailed as heroes after the footage from the hospital was shared on social media, but the nurses insist they were just doing what came naturally to them. ‘Of course we were scared, very scared, but I think this is the natural instinct of a maternity staff,’ said Chen Ting-Chin, supervisor of Ma Cherie Maternity Centre. ‘The safety of the babies is of utmost importance.’
