International maritime traffic has been impacted by Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. The sole red sea port in Israel, located in Eilat, has been severely impacted by the blockade. Israel reported an 85% reduction in imports and exports from the Eilat port as of mid-December. The Eilat Port in the Red Sea is also a major component of Israel’s electronic vehicle sector. Up to 70% of Israel’s electric vehicle sales come from imports of vehicles made in China. Chinese state-owned carrier Cosco recently halted shipments to Israel, dealing a serious blow.
