Making an Upsetting Block - Blacksmith’s Tools

Upsetting is the opposite technique to drawing out. Both of these processes are among the 5 fundamental steps of blacksmithing. Upsetting entails pushing the metal back onto itself thereby increasing mass in a given area. This process is often used on the end of round stock to create a “head“ on the end of a bar. The upsetting block is an ideal tool to achieve this result. In this video we show the steps involved to make your own upsetting block. A welcome tool to the beginner blacksmiths tool kit.
