Molotov cocktails fired at French riot police amid clashes over motorway construction

Riot police were hit with Molotov cocktails during clashes over the building of a new motorway in France. In the Tarn region, authorities estimated that ‘1,200 radical individuals’ tried to keep them from the A-69 motorway construction site by attacking them with explosives launched on catapults on June 8. While officers tried to disperse them with tear gas, the protesters were defiant to block them, fearing the road extension would destroy wetlands, farmlands, and trees and contaminate water sources. Footage shows the police in full gear backing away as the explosives flew in their direction. After the commotion, five were confirmed hurt in the clash, including a police, two paramilitary, and two protesters. Tarn official Michel Vilbois said the protesters had ‘clearly come to cause damage with no link to the issue’. #France #Protest #Molotov Subscribe to The Telegraph with our special offer: just £1 for 3 months.
