Ever since Russia invaded Ukraine in February of 2022 the United States and its Western allies have imposed what were supposed to be crippling sanctions on the Putin-led nation. Except that isn’t really what happened, and now even U.S. allies like Japan are finding ways around the sanctions to purchase much-needed Russian oil.
