“This Nearly Was Mine“ performed by Jon Herington

Many players have requested recordings of the arrangements in my two books, so I’m adding them one at a time here, as I relearn them! This is one of my favorites. I was inspired by the late great Bucky Pizzarelli, a master of this type of guitar playing, and, of course, the fantastic Sinatra recording of this beautiful song. The song is so exquisite in terms of the notes and the chords (to say nothing of the very moving lyric), that I think this arrangement might be the only one where I feel like I got it pretty perfectly right - there doesn’t seem to be a note that doesn’t belong, and every one I included seems necessary. - it’s kind of clean that way, and because of that it’s fun to practice and play.
