Garbage Machine - On the Street (early American skinhead Oi)

Well here it is, perhaps the rarest recording from the first wave of American Oi music. This is the oft-forgotten recording of the Athens, GA Oi band featuring Fred Schneider (of the B-52s) on guitar. The band was started as a side project in 1986 (after the death of B-52s guitarist Ricky Wilson) and they recorded a single in 1987 that were planning on releasing themselves. However, as the American skinhead movement gained more negative press from participants spurred by right-wing politics, Warner Brothers forced Schneider to shelve the record. There were two songs recorded and neither ever saw the light of day. Interestingly, this recording was one of the first to be recorded onto Digital Audio Tape (DAT), which had just been introduced. The audio in this video was pulled from a rough mix straight from DAT by someone close to the engineer (who wishes not to be named). The song is interesting take on the early US Oi style. Shneider’s guitar tone is reminiscent of the early No Future Record
