Ken Block Tribute Hoonicorn - Pocket Drift Hot Wheels RC Car

This is my tribute for the legend, Ken Block. He was such an inspiration for me and seeing him whip around in the Hoonicorn has made me wanted to do the same. All my years of wrenching on cars and a little bit a amature drifting was because of Ken. Information about the build. I used a Hot Wheels 65 Mustang Fastback for the build. After stripping the paint, I removed as much material as I can from the wheel wells. This way I know I will have clearance for the bigger wheels. I designed all addition add on such as the front spoiler, side skirts, over fenders, rear spoiler, and the wheels. The body kits were then 3d printed and super glue onto the diecast car. The wheels were resin 3d printed and hand painted with acrylic paint. I had some white decal sheets that I used to print Ken’s 43, the skull and the Monster symbol. After cutting the decals out, it did not come out as clean as I expected. In cases like this, I would like to have a white toner printer, but due to how expensive they are, it is out of my budget. After sanding the overall car as best as I could, I shot it with some Vallejo flat black, applied the decals, then shot it with one coat of 2K clear. I should have spent a little more time to buff the clear coat and shoot another layer on, but I got lazy and just kept it as is. The newly designed chassis had a very thin “neck“ where it transitioned to the steering mechanism. This was an issue because the chassis would bend and bounce. I had issues with the electronics connecting and had to swap out multiple different components and re-soldered many times. The lipo batteries had connection issues as will I had to solder a new connection on. The tiny wires for the LED lights kept detaching so again, re-solding was necessary. This took 2 days for me to get a stable connection. It was very frustrating to say the least. I am happy with the finished result. There are a lot of lessons learned and things will need to be changed, but this one will do. Visit #kenblock #kb43ver #hoonigan #hoonicorn #hotwheelscustom #hotwheelsrc #pocketdriftcar
