New World No.7 Elena Rybakina won her first title of the season, and the first WTA 1000 title of her career, at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells! In a reversal of this year’s Australian Open championship match, the seed defeated No.2 seed Aryna Sabalenka 7-6(11), 6-4 in the final, triumphing at the first event of 2023’s Sunshine Double. The reigning Wimbledon champion got past Paula Badosa, Varvara Gracheva and Karolina Muchova before ousting World No.1 and defending champion Iga Swiatek en route to the final.
