A powerful flood has hit Istanbul - the city has been inundated, there are dead and missing people Istanbul has been flooded in Turkey due to powerful flooding. In Turkey’s Istanbul large-scale flooding caused heavy rains, which led to the flooding of streets and houses in two districts of the city. Two people have died as a result of the flooding. Four more people are reported missing. This was reported by the head of the Turkish Interior Ministry Ali Yerlikaya. According to the Interior Ministry, the flooding left 12 people stranded in the neighborhood of a bungalow hotel in the Shishli Valley, near the border with Bulgaria and Greece. Search and rescue teams have rescued six people, but there are also fatalities. In Istanbul due to a heavy downpour, a flood began, which literally overnight destroyed several neighborhoods. As noted by local TV channel, the hardest hit by the disaster was the district of Başakşehir in the European part of the city. There on several streets the water level has risen so much that parked cars began to be carried away by streams. The movement of public transportation is blocked. Media also reported that two workers were injured in a lightning strike at an Istanbul airport airplane parking lot and taken to hospital. The Halkali customs office was also flooded. The Turkish Disaster Management Agency foresees further rainfall in western and southwestern Turkey and emphasizes the risk of flash floods, lightning strikes and strong winds.
