Mel & Kim was a British pop duo consisting of the sisters Mel and Kim Appleby. Led by producers Stock, Aitken & Waterman, they scored hits like ’Showing out’, ’Respectable,’ .’ (Fun, Love and Money) and ’That’s the way’ it is. Of these, ’Showing out’ and ’Respectable’ were number 1 hits worldwide. Mel Appleby died on January 18, 1990 at the age of 23 from the effects of cancer. Kim Appleby returned in November 1990 as a solo singer with an album and had three more hits: Don’t worry, . and Mama. In 1993 the second album, Breakaway, was released and in 1994 the single Free spirit. In 2007 Kim Appleby released the downloadable single High. In February 2018, the previously unreleased Mel & Kim single Where Is Love was released. ’Showing Out’ was their first hit and reached #1 in the Dutch Top 40 in November 1986.
