NASA Tech Demo Streams Cat Video From Deep Space Via Laser #Shorts

NASA just streamed the first video from deep space via laser! DSOC, the optical comms tech demo that hitched a ride on #MissionToPsyche last month, has sent a “historic first“ HD stream from deep space. Spoiler alert: Both cats *and* lasers were involved. The Deep Space Optical Communications experiment (DSOC) is designed to transmit data from deep space at rates 10 to 100 times greater than the state-of-the-art radio frequency systems used by spacecraft today. In this test, DSOC transmitted the 15-second video from nearly 19 million miles (about 80x the Earth-Moon distance, or 0.2 astronomical units) away. The successful test is the first of many in coming months, as the team seeks to lay the groundwork for humanity’s next giant leap: sending humans to Mars. #NASA #JPL #DSOC #CatVideo #CatsInSpace #Technology #TechDemo #Shorts
