Casual Leather Backpack Pattern, How to Make a Leather Backpack

In this video I show how to make a leather backpack. SHOP THE PATTERN HERE: ✺ SHOPIFY: ✺ ETSY: This backpack is big enough to fit a laptop and it a nice casual backpack with high versatility. It isn’t a hard project it will just take some time since the backpack is quite big. You will need the most basic leather working tools: (something to cut, a hollow punch, needles, thread and not much else ). DIMENSIONS: 40/30/12cm or 15,8/11,8/4,7 inch MATERIALS: 1 sqm of oil-tanned leather mm 0.3 sqm for the contrast leather 4-4.5 mm veg-tan (be sure to have the length for the straps) ACCESSORIES: Roling buckles: 1 x 20mm, 4 x 25 mm D-Rings: 2 x 25mm 1mm waxed thread Fenice’s edge paint Hello, we are Vasile and Pavel and today we are going to make this backpack. After checking the calibration page, start by cutting the dashed line where the pages combine. Combine the papers using the corresponding letter and number which will come in pairs. Using the combined patterns, split the leather into smaller parts which are easier to work with. Using a big hollow punch I am making some holes to help with taping the pattern to the leather. When I know I will punch many holes I like to tie the punch to my hand, this will mitigate most of the tension in the hand. Another neat trick especially while punching through paper or glue is to use a cheap paraffin candle to lubricate the tip. Always use a metal ruler, never a plastic one because the blade can easily go up on the plastic and then on your hand. Finish the main leather parts if you are doing like me, using two types of leather and then the other ones. If you are using an edge paint or burnish the edges, do it now, before stitching. I am using Fenice’s Edge paint but other brands of similar quality are around. I applied some glue to the leather before, so after I put the buckle and the loop they will remain in position for stitching. I will stitch the lateral piece to the frontal pocket now. Now the cover of the bag and the closing strap. This type of stitching is done with only one needle. Now the buckle. It is also smart to help the leather to bend to your will, before stitching, it will look better and be easier to stitch. Stitch the pocket to the frontal piece. Buckle parts now. I am using the markings from the pattern but punch the holes through both layers of leather to save some time. Now it is time for what I call “ The flaps ”. This is optional, only if you use two kinds of leathers like I am. I hope you enjoyed our video!
