Air traffic control audio: Pilot reports unusual lights over Quebec on Feb. 12, 2023

On Feb. 12, 2023 at approximately 0800 z, several aircraft near Sherbrooke, Quebec “reported seeing two or three very strange lights in the sky, high above the flight paths... moving in a rapid and irregular way.“ Their reports appeared in Transport Canada’s online aviation incident database on Feb. 21. Lights visible for about 30 minutes; they were moving in a rapid and irregular way at an altitude described as being between 50,000 and 60,000 ft. The aircraft were: a CargoLux Italia Boeing 747-800 (LXVCG/ICV93PK) from Chicago/O’Hare, IL (KORD) to Luxembourg, Luxembourg (ELLX); an Air France Airbus 330-200 (OOSEA/AFR6737) from Chicago/O’Hare, IL (KORD) to Paris/Charles-de-Gaulle, France (LFPG); and an Atlas Air Inc. Boeing 747-400 (N415MC/GTI8237) from Chicago/O’Hare, IL (KORD) to Frankfurt, Germany (EDDF).
