Watch China-made Humanoid Robot GR-1 with AI brains, nimble joints, and potential of mass production

President Xi Jinping toured Shanghai’s tech hub, Zhangjiang, where he watched a demonstration of the GR-1, a general-purpose humanoid robot developed by Chinese startup Fourier Intelligence, during his recent inspection in the city last month. Weighing 55 kilograms, standing at meters, and equipped with 40 joints, GR-1 showcases a top walking speed of 5 km/h and a 50-kilogram load-bearing capacity, positioning itself as a leader in the domestic industry. Gu Jie, Fourier Intelligence’s CEO, emphasized the significance of the robot’s lower limbs, showcasing multiple degrees of movement in the hip and knee joints, along with nimble upper limb design of seven joints. The company hopes the AI-backed robot can be adapted to various scenarios, with potential applications in rehabilitation and beyond. In terms of cost-efficiency for commercial mass production, GR-1, surpasses hydraulic rivals. The company aims for mass production of 500 to 1000 humanoid robots next year. _
