THE CLASH JANIE JONES, CAPITAL RADIO, WHATS MY NAME, GARAGELAND

THE CLASH – JANIE JONES, CAPITAL RADIO, WHAT’S MY NAME, GARAGELAND On this date in 1977, THE CLASH played the Elizabethan Ballroom in Manchester, a concert that was filmed for the Granada TV ‘SO IT GOES’ programme, (November 15th, 1977). The Clash gig was a punk showcase, organised specifically with the Granada film in mind, and featured four numbers: CAPITAL RADIO, JANIE JONES, WHAT’S MY NAME and GARAGELAND. Support for the Clash came from Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Richard Hell and the Voidoids. The film would be divided into segments and duly scattered across the second series of Tony Wilson’s SO IT GOES. Snippets were screened twice on the TV show (Dec 77 and Nov 78, and repeated again in 1990) and circulated on video and audio. Other than the ‘So It Goes’ filming, no other source is believed to exist.
