La Piovra. Riz Ortolani

La Piovra (Italian: The Octopus, referring to “The Mafia“) is an acclaimed Italian Television drama miniseries about the Mafia. Corrado Cattani (Michele Placido) is a police inspector who lives a family nightmare: he is too straight to accept the one-time infidelity of his wife, thirteen years ago, may be because he is unsure of the paternity of the twelve-year-old daughter he loves. Police commissioner finds diversion in a new job recently opened in a small Sicilian village, when local commissioner is found dead in his car, shot by the Mafia. Riz Ortolani composed the soundtrack of the first series and Ennio Morricone scored from the second to the fith season. Ortolani found the correct musical style for this series and Morricone developed it further. The themes “Titoli“ (Titles) y “Cattedrale di Piombo“ (Lead Cathedral) stand out.
