A powerful M7.2 earthquake shook Xinjiang A 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the Tajikistan-China border early Thursday, according to China Earthquake Network Center. It occurred near the border between the northwestern Chinese Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and Tajikistan’s mountainous Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region. It had a depth of 20 kilometres and was 66 km west of the small town of Murghob, in Tajikistan, near the border with China’s Xinjiang region.
