Hank C. Burnette - “Did We Have A Party“

Not much is known about Billy Brown, who both wrote and recorded the original version of “Did We Have A Party“, but here’s some tiny tit-bits: Billy and his brother, Tommy, were from Florida. They landed in Atlanta in the summer of ’57 at the Anchorage Club in the Clearmont Hotel and signed a short term contract with Bill Packum’s National Records (NRC) which eventually led to the release of “Did We Have A Party“. Jim ’The Vibrator Kid’ Sorrells played tenor sax on the record, and later the same year the masters were leased to Columbia Records. Billy, Tommy and Jim dated three hookers who lived together until they got busted as accomplices to a bank robbery in Chattanooga. If anyone has got any more info on Billy Brown, whom apparently got stucked (as so many others) in country music after his unsuccessful rock’n roll career was over, please don’t hesitate to add what you know!
