Pandit Kumar Gandharva is a renowned Indian, Hindustani classical singer. Pandit Kumar Gandharva is also known for his expertise in Bhajan. He also experimented with other genres of music like devotional songs known as Bhajans, folk songs like Nirguni Bhajans and Kabir Bhajans. Pandit Kumar Gandharva’s unique style and creativity made him compose songs in the same Raga in both fast and slow pace. The most unique feature about the singing style of Kumar Gandharva was that he refused to be limited by the specific tradition and rules of a Gharana. He was born on 8 April 1924 and was originally named Shivaputra Siddramayya Komkali. He is also known as Kumarji. Pandit Kumar Gandharva passed away in January 1992. He had not been in the best of health, and to me it looked as if the thought of being unable to sing in the future was on his mind and had caused him to lose interest in living.
