A Unique Perspective on Christian Gnosticism Secret Quest is different from many documentary programs on ancient Christian Gnostics, because rather than being created by historians, theologians, or religious scholars, it was made the Gnostics themselves. Traditionally, people who have spoken about Gnostics and Gnosticism have not been practicing Gnostics, and have approached the topic from an outsider’s perspective, reliant on theories of what Gnostic texts alluded too, rather than through personal experience of the information and messages they entail. This presents a difficulty in explaining Gnosticism to its fullest extent, as unless somebody is practicing the same techniques the ancient Christian Gnostics practiced, they are not fully in a position to explain the goals and possibilities of Gnosticism. Throughout history, Christian Gnostics and their predecessors were consistently persecuted and driven underground by mainstream religious authorities. When this happened, the perspectives shared about them were often those of their oppressors, who fundamentally disagreed with the message at the heart of Gnosticism. As a result, the true story of the Christian Gnostics did not survive the passage of history intact. Secret Quest presents information to the world that hasn’t been readily accessible, setting straight who the Gnostics were and what the Gnostic writings are really all about. Introducing Christian Gnosticism The Secret Quest documentary contains information not only on the history of Gnosticism and the various cultures and traditions in which Gnosis could be found throughout the centuries, but also explores the practices used by Gnostics to achieve self-knowledge and gain spiritual experience, and the end goal of enlightenment that the Gnostics were trying to achieve. The Secret Quest documentary provides an overview of the fundamentals of self-knowledge in early Christianity, and explores how Gnostic practices were used to attain knowledge, personal experience, and personal contact with divinity. Gnostic Messages One of the key messages of the Secret Quest documentary is that gnosis is a living doctrine, that once suppressed adapts itself to different cultures, appearing time and again in different ways in different times. Secret Quest explores what in The Gnostic Movement were known as the three keys to awakening. It’s a documentary about discovering and walking a secret path that allows oneself to transform themselves spiritually and to answer the big questions about life, existence, religion, and knowledge, and about who we are and what our place is in the world.
