Ongun Tutuncu - Underground Famous 7. UGR - All the Same “Sayfa XIX” is a musical composition that reflects the various stages of my experience living in Ankara, Turkey, which began in 2019. To convey the contrast between the first and second half of my time there, I used a slow build-up with a gradually intensifying chorus, connected by a melodic bridge. This contrast was intended to represent the difference in the frequency and intensity of the incentives I encountered during my stay. During the first semester of 2021, my creativity was somewhat limited. However, in the latter part of that year and throughout 2022, it seemed to flourish, eventually leading to my first-ever release and bringing me the sense of peace that I had been seeking. This transition can be heard in the way that the drums and percussion are used in the composition. The beginning features a slower drumbeat sequence with mainly reverberating percussion, while the chorus after the bridge is driven by an aggressive drumline and filled with chaotic, sharp high frequencies. The sense of peace mentioned earlier is also expressed through the dreamy ambiance present in various parts of the track, particularly in the mid-section, where it serves as a divider and marks a moment of enlightenment and self-assurance. If one were to compare life to a book, with each year representing a page, then the page numbered 19 in my book would represent the period of time depicted in “Sayfa XIX.” The title itself is derived from the Turkish word for “page,” as “sayfa” is the equivalent of “page” in English. “Sayfa XIX” is dedicated to my friends Ugur, Ongun, and Anil, who supported me and gave me the chance to share my music with the world through their wonderful label.
