Reduction Firing my Gas Pottery Kiln — ASMR Edition

Here’s this week’s ASMR edition of my kiln packing, reduction firing, and finally unpacking video. If you’d prefer to watch the narrated video, which is a little longer and goes into FAR more detail about each small step, you can find it here: Timestamps: 0:00 - Introduction 0:30 - Packing the kiln 1:11 - Using yellow iron ochre to save old pots I don’t like 8:12 - The finished kiln pack 8:19 - THE FIRING BEGINS 10:04 - Initiating the reduction atmosphere 13:21 - Ending the firing and crash cooling 14:49 - Opening the kiln (two days later) 15:57 - Unpacking 19:45 - Sanding the bases of the vessels 21:12 - Popping lids off jars Wadding recipe: 50% china clay, 50% coarse alumina hydrate, mix powders and then add water very slowly as the mixture tends to turn too watery very easily. So better to take it slow. Once it has a clay like consistency you can wedge it up and store it in an air tight container. Thanks as
