Prem Thakker joins Katie to discuss the recent language in change in policy platforms when it comes to the DNC. Prem says; “There’s a sort of intentionality to including something that hasn’t explicitly been written in decades in the platform, um, since, you know, the founding Hezbollah. And another aspect of this that I thought was interesting is that when you look back at the 2020, platform, one in which there’s a competitive primary, one in which a lot of discourse we had about foreign policy, but also about plenty of other spheres in American politics.
We’re kind of much more left in nature, um, given the sort of competitive primary, given the sort of surrounding circumstances of COVID, of racial justice and police brutality and so many things, so many contradictions of American society kind of fully on display. These conversations I think we’re a bit more robust.
And so in 2020 platform, It said that quote, ’Democrats believe the United States should not impose regime change on other countries and reject that as the goal of us policy toward Iran’ is very different than how this platform is explicitly saying, the Lebanese people deserve to be free from Iran backed Hezbollah. That is a quite striking difference.“
