Q: Are oil paints toxic?
A: No, unless you have an allergy to linseed oil. You have to be careful with the thinner though, as some can be harmful to your health (e.g. White Spirit).
Q: Do I need a varnish layer before using oil paints?
A: Sometimes, though I would apply a varnish all the time just to be safe. Some paints require it (such as acrylics), though hybrids such as Tamiya do not necessarily, though it’s good to be safe.
Q: What can I use to clean or thin oil paints?
A: Products such as white spirit, or designated oil thinners for artists or modelers are good things to go to.
