Taygete of the Pleiades | Best Ambient Album

Taygete from the album “Pleiades“ by Christel Veraart | For more information: Located in the constellation of Taurus, Taygete is one of the famous Pleiads and the opening track of my album Pleiades, released this month. Taygete is one of the Seven Sisters of the Pleiades. In Greek mythology the Seven Sisters were Alcyone, Maia, Electra, Merope, Taygete, Celaeno, and Asterope, names now assigned to individual stars. Visible to the naked eye from as far north as the North Pole, and farther south than the southernmost tip of South America. They were daughters of Atlas and Pleione, who were transformed into stars. “Veraart is a distinct new voice in the space-ambient scene, bringing an intimate chamber music feel to the genre. Her musical glossolalia will remind some of the secret-language vocalizations of Lisa Gerrard. A more apt comparison—also recommended—would be Jennifer Grais who has recorded with tribal ambient master Byron Metcalf, or Serena Gabriel (collab. w/Steve Roach). Like them, Veraart’s crystalline voice is strong enough to avoid the clichés of wispy-voiced new-age sirens …” -(Paul Asbury Seaman, Music Reviewer) The Pleiades cluster contains hundreds of stars, of which only a handful are commonly visible to the unaided eye. Revered by shamans, singers, and poets alike, the stars in the Pleiades are thought to have formed together around 100 million years ago, making them 1/50th the age of our sun, and they lie some 130 parsecs (425 light years) away. “ … Many a night I saw the Pleiads, rising thro’ the mellow shade, Glitter like a swarm of fireflies tangled in a silver braid …” (ALFRED, LORD TENNYSON) Pleiades - The Album: Pleiades - One Sheet: Blogpost “Taygete of the Pleiades“: Review Paul Asbury Seaman: Pleiades - All Reviews: The Seven Sisters of the Pleiades - Munya Andrews: “ Poem Locksley Hall - Alfred, Lord Tennyson: Brittanica: Album Cover image by Lewis: © 2023, Christel Veraart
