GROTESQUE FORMS. There’s some history on the back of Kiss’ sophomore effort, released the same year as their eponymous bow, 1974. The “Hotter Than Hell“ photo shoot is one of the few times bassist Gene Simmons has seen frontman Paul Stanley “blitzed.“ Stanley was so sideways he had to be locked in his car. Some of Ace Frehley’s makeup had to be airbrushed onto the cover photos later, because the guitarist’s face was recovering from damage incurred during a drunken, high-speed auto accident in the Hollywood
