“Butting In“ (1932)

Comedy skit based around keep fit regimes and boxing. Full title reads: “Butting In. A mixed grill of girls and Naunton Wayne and the Three Sailors. (From the London Pavilion.“ Introductory intertitle reads: “Even dancers have to keep themselves fit by steps other than dancing... P.T. for instance.“ A group of chorus girls in vests and shorts perform an exercise routine in front of a curtained backdrop. They stand on tiptoes and lift their arms. They then bend and touch their toes. A man comes onto the stage - it is Naunton Wayne. A little bit of banter ensues between Naunton and the woman instructing the girls in their exercise. She eventually asks him: “Do you mind going away?“ but he wants to stay. She explains that the girls are training to be boxers and he had better watch out. He grabs hold of one of the girls and flexes her arm to check on her muscles. He then squeezes her thighs. “You are a nice girl aren’t you?“ he asks. The teacher appears with boxing gloves on.
