Lois’ Simple SNOW Shadows Sunrise Watercolor Landscape Christmas watercolour painting tutorial demo

Purchase my original paintings here: Support me on Patreon: Today I’m painting a simple, loose winter woodland scene with snow shadows and trees as the focus, using a limited palette of cerulean blue, cobalt blue, ultramarine, alizarin crimson, raw and burnt sienna, neutral tint and paynes grey. It is inspired by a photo I took a couple of years ago. The idea is to try to paint a wet in wet light background as loosely as possible, aiming to keep a nice sunrise glow and to paint the snow with a little reflected light form the sky. Once dry, the trees and shadows are added. I’m using Saunders Waterford 100% cotton hot press 140lb/300g weight paper, 11“ x 15“/28cms x 38cms, my paper is taped to my board with ordinary decorators masking tape and is at an angle of about 45 degrees so gravity will help me paint. I use various brushes as demonstrated in the video, but use whichever brushes you have.
