Place the flour, butter and salt into a bowl and rub the butter into the flour until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. 2. Beat an egg and add to the mixture. 3. Using a fork mix in the egg and bring the pastry together. 4. I find that using my hands is a quick way of getting the pastry into a ball. 5. Wrap the pastry in cling wrap and place it in the fridge for a minimum of 30 minutes. 6. Lightly grease an ovenproof 8-inch plate with butter or margarine. 7. Preheat the oven to the above temperatures. 8. Sprinkle flour on the work surface and cut the pastry in half. 9. Roll out half the pastry till it’s the size of the plate. 10. Place the pastry on the plate, press it down and trim the edges with a sharp knife. 11. Prick the pastry all over with a fork, doing this helps the pastry to bake. 12. Set to one side while we prepare the apple tart filling. 13. Peel, core and slice the apples thinly and place in a bowl. 14. Add the cinnamon and sugar to the apples and mix them together. 15. Add the apple tart filling to the centre of the pastry leaving the outer edge free. 16. Brush the outside of the pastry with a beaten egg. 17. Roll the other half of the pastry and place it over the top of the apples. 18. Press down the pastry so the edges are sealed. 19. Cut off the excess pastry with a knife. 20. Using a fork press down on the edge of the pastry, all the way around the tart. 21. Cut a cross in the centre of the tart, this helps release the steam from the tart. 22. Brush the top of the apple tart with egg. 23. Decorate the top of the pie with leftover pastry. 24. Again brush the pastry decorations with egg. 25. Sprinkle the top of the tart with white/brown sugar. 26. Bake in a preheated oven for 35-40 minutes until golden in colour. 27. When baked, remove from the oven and cool for 15 minutes before serving. 28. Serve with freshly whipped cream. 29. Mmm Scrummy!!! *Storage.* • Apple tart will keep for 4-5 days in the refrigerator. • Apple tart can be frozen baked or unbaked for 4 months. • Bake from frozen and allow an extra 20 minutes to the above time (if uncooked). • If baked, then heat the apple tart until it’s piping hot inside.
