Sheikh Hasina’s Election Rigging: Why Caretaker Government is the Only Path Forward for Bangladesh

The political situation in Bangladesh is at a stalemate as the ruling party, Awami League, plans to rig the upcoming election, while the main opposition, BNP, demands a neutral, nonpartisan caretaker government to ensure a fair election. The regime has politicised every institution in the country, including the judiciary, police, civil administration, and media, and has promoted corrupt personnel to important positions to ensure their vested interests. The US, EU, and UK want to see a free, fair, and inclusive election, whereas China and Russia are behind the current regime. If the international community does not pressure for a caretaker government, Sheikh Hasina will win by rigging the elections, as has happened in the past.
