Donald Trump acquitted by the Senate after weeklong impeachment trial

Former president Donald Trump has been acquitted by the Senate after a weeklong impeachment trial. Only seven Republicans joined the Democrats in voting to convict Mr Trump after a final vote tally of 57-43 and the two thirds majority required to impeach Mr Trump was not reached. The seven GOP senators who joined with all Democrats in finding Trump guilty included Richard Burr from North Carolina, Bill Cassidy from Louisiana, Susan Collins from Maine, Ben Sasse of Nebraska, Mitt Romney of Utah and Lisa Murkowski from Alaska.
