Organized by Harrison’s widow, Olivia, and son, Dhani, with musical direction by Eric Clapton, the event benefitted the Material World Charitable Foundation, founded by Harrison himself. The concert showcased a diverse array of performances, starting with traditional Sanskrit invocations and Indian music by Anoushka Shankar, followed by comedic interludes featuring Monty Python. The main program featured “George’s Band,“ including surviving Beatles members, along with Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and others, playing faithful renditions of Harrison’s songs. The event was captured on film, later released on DVD, CD, and Blu-ray, and in 2018, was made available on streaming services and issued on vinyl to commemorate what would have been Harrison’s 75th birthday. “Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for “fair use“ for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
