Africa Has What It Takes to Feed Itself — Here’s How to Make It Happen “Africa has land, we have water… yet we still import a lot of food,” said Dr. Sylvain Nafiba Ouédraogo, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Permanent Interstate Committee for drought control in the Sahel. “But in order to break this [cycle], we need to have policies really promoting the food system in our country.” Such enabling policies include better access to high-quality seeds and agri-inputs, stronger food processing and preservation systems, and the free movement of food across the continent, the official told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the 2nd UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake in Addis Ababa.
