I suppose it signifies the end of an era. There will never be another chance to see him perform live. Neil Peart’s passing earlier this year was the start of a very bad year, and hits just keep comin’. Anyway, after Eddie’s passing I did like many up my Van Halen playlist and relived all those great songs. Though I’m decidedly a bigger fan of the Roth-era VH, this song came on and I knew right away I had to do a cover of it as a farewell tribute. Eddie was more to me than just the world’s greatest/most influential guitarist, he was a complete musician. Classically trained pianist, turned drummer, turned guitarist, songwriter, innovator, mad scientist. That’s why I set him so high on a pedestal. He simply was a musical genius, and I consider myself extremely lucky that I walked on the planet and breathed the same air he did. RIP, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen.
