The biggest and best armed Fort of the First World War was that of Manonville, today Roger Cook and I am going to take you through the entire fort, the huge underground tunnels and cracks in the walls.
This was a stop fort, designed to be the last break for a German invasion force, even when surrounded, and had the most modern armaments of that war. It even saw a little action during WW2. Today it has been execrated painstakingly bu a small group of dedicated volunteers, who removed several meters of earth to uncover the many km of tunnels and fighting positions so long forgotten by history, and the French too given its surrender. Only now are we able to walks the halls marked by explosions and shelling.
And given the size of this fort it is a 2 hr special so put the coffee on and join us.
