Gator in the yard

We called animal control to come and remove it. They said, since its over 5 feet, they would have to euthanize it. We did not not want this as they were here first. He was just living its life. My neighbor, who grew up here in Norther Florida, took control and dragged it back to the water. We still see him swimming from time to time.
