Twenty one Praises to Tara | སྒྲོལ་མ་ཉེར་གཅིག། | 二十一度母赞| Drukmo Gyal & Joosep Kõrvits

Let’s invoke the presence and blessings of twenty-one forms of Mother Tara through this prayer and mantra in order to overcome the eight great fears... Eight great fears (Skt. aṣṭamahābhaya; Tib. འཇིགས་པ་ཆེན་པོ་བརྒྱད་, Wyl. ‘jigs pa chen po brgyad) — the eight great fears are considered to have an outer aspect and an inner aspect—the mental defilements they represent. While the outer fears, or dangers, threaten our life or property, the inner ones endanger us spiritually by obstructing or turning us away from the path to enlightenment. They are the fears of: drowning or water (ཆུ Wyl. chu) thieves (མི་རྒོད Wyl. mi rgod) lions (སེང་གེ Wyl. seng ge) snakes (ཀླུ Wyl. klu) fire (མེ Wyl. me) spirits or flesh-eating demons (ཤ་ཟ Wyl. sha za) captivity or imprisonment (ཆད་པ Wyl. chad pa) elephants (གླང་པོ Wyl. glang po) Their respective inner counterparts are: 1. (unhealthy) craving or attachment 2. wrong or false views (according to Buddhist morality and values) 3. (Unhealthy) pride 4. (Unaware and unhealthy) envy or jealousy 5. (Unaware and unhealthy) hatred or anger 6. doubt (in self and others who are like ourselves) 7. (Unhealthy) avarice 8. (Unaware) delusion or confusion.
