This meeting featured the teams from the Netherlands and Spain, who fought to obtain their first title. This was the second consecutive World Cup final formed only by teams from the European continent, after the game between France and Italy, in 2006. The referee was the Englishman Howard Webb, assisted by the Englishmen Darren Cann and Mike Mullarkey. Spain won the game in overtime with Iniesta’s goal and took the world cup.
