King Crimson - Live at Hyde Park (July 5th, 1969) - 8mm film

0:00 Preshow 0:06 21st Century Schizoid Man 0:59 Epitaph I noticed no one had properly synced the infamous Hyde Park 8mm film, so I took it upon myself to sync this very short, tantalizing footage to the audience recording. I used the unedited VHS copy as a base and spliced the HD official snippets into it when possible. This footage originates from Greg Lake’s archive, and I heard his parents filmed it in the crowd, explaining where he acquired it. The location of the reel itself nowadays is unknown, but it can be assumed it’s in DGM’s archive since Greg implied the reel was given to Robert for release. Fortunately, a VHS copy of the entire unedited 8mm circulated recently, allowing me to get my hands on the unedited Crim footage for syncing. The whole 8mm is actually two reels covering all the event’s acts and preshow. Unfortunately, less than a minute of it is actually of King Crimson. Here is a link to the full film, which is silent, although the description contains more cool info I didn’t cover here, so be sure to check it out: It is still unknown if Granada TV filmed any of the opening acts in color 16mm, as the Stones’ set was. Photos of King Crimson performing show operators manning at least one of the professional cameras, but still nothing has turned up. It could be possible the whole show was filmed, or just a few clips were done to test the cameras, or maybe even the camera operators weren’t filming yet and just playing with the equipment before actual use. Fripp has said they didn’t film the event, but with the Chesterfield film popping out of nowhere, they could have just not gone through all the necessary means to contact this third party and see if they have it. Granada didn’t have nearly as destructive of a policy as the BBC’s infamous one at the time, but they didn’t keep everything, so even if it was confirmed to be filmed, it would still be a question if it exists anymore. Anyway, I have a few more KC releases on the horizon, so feel free to watch out for them: Montreal 73 8mm Sync Central Park 73 16mm Edit Montreal 74 Documentary Footage Sync (this one’s a big maybe) Central Park 74 8mm Sync Happy Family Sessions Remix Islands with Early Unused Guitar and Mellotron Mix
