Astronauts To Moon (1969)

Colour newsreel item. No titles. Shots of the lunar landscape - probably from stills of the moon. Commentator talks of the astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell and William Anders who orbited the moon and sent photographs and television pictures back to earth. Several shots of the Apollo space capsule on the sea after a safe landing, taken from a ship that has come to collect the astronauts. The three men pose for cameras then make their way down the steps of a helicopter and along a red carpet on the deck of US aircraft carrier Yorktown as photographers and cameraman clamour for pictures. They shake hands with the captain and stand before a microphone. The space capsule is hoisted onto the deck, placed carefully on a trailer and towed away. Several shots of the three astronauts wearing dressing gowns and listening on telephone receivers to US President Lyndon B Johnson.
