TRANSCRIPT: In this video we will show you how to assemble one of FEATHER SMALLSWORDS designs. For this example we are going to assemble TYPE 2 smallsword with open rings. Here you can see how it should all fit and now we’ll proceed to the assembly. I will put everything aside and leave only the blade. We recommend that for this purpose you do the assembly using locksmith clamp. Always protect the blade with some hard rubber or thick cardboard so it doesn’t get scratched. First we put the guard disc. It should go all the way down the tang to the root of blade. Make sure it fits all the way down. Second comes the knuckle bow. If you are using closed ring guard type one you should put a small ring delivered to you with all the guard parts before you put the knuckle bow. As you can see knuckle bow fits nicely but it is lose and it actually shouldn’t move. So we are going to tight it. For this I we usually use duct tape or peace of wood. I simply cut small peace of duct tape and fold it to form thick rectangular shape 5mm wide I will put small peace of duct tape half way in the ricasso and put it down the thread until it is stuck on the squared section of the blade tang. Now I use the rubber hammer to hammer it all the way down. Make sure you hold the blade with your free hand so it won’t slip or move. Feel free to use force, our guards can handle it :) Now the knuckle bow is tighten and ricasso does not move. Make sure thread is in a line with knuckle bow. Put the grip all the way down the thread. Sometimes you will have to twist the grip in order to go all the way down. Than you put the pommel. At the end comes the M6 screw. We always send pair of these in case you damage the first one when cutting the thread. Now to tighten the screw. Make sure to twist the grip while you turn the screw. Do this couple of times and make sure grip doesn’t get damaged at the end where ricasso starts. When grip can no longer turn without getting damaged, you hold it tight and screw pommel until it no longer can turn. Now all we have to do is to cut the rest of the thread. For this you use grinder. Make sure to use safety glasses when doing the cut. Firm and straight cut. Round the edges using file. Your FEATHER SMALLSWORD is ready! Protect the tip.
