Two versions of the song are presented. The first is sung by the composer himself in the Abzakh dialect of Western Circassian (Adigean). The other is performed by Cheriym Nexwsch [Нэхущ Чэрим; Черим Нахушев] in Kabardian (Eastern Circassian). The close proximity of Eastern and Western Circassian, which are sometimes categorized as separate languages (“Divide et impera“), becomes obvious.
Albert Lhache is a prolific Adigean singer and songwriter. He composed many songs on Circassian villages, towns and clans in Circassia and the diaspora, emphasizing Circassian unity. “Rihaniya“ well represents his fine art of composition.
