With: Barbara Hannigan, Georg Nigl Sasha Waltz & Guests* dancers Vocalconsort Berlin Ensemble Modern Pascal Dusapin Conductor: Franck Ollu Stage director and choreographer: Sasha Waltz Sceneries: Sasha Waltz, Thilo Reuther Recorded in performance at Opera Lille February 2, 2012 Sung in Italian PRODUCTION NOTE ABOUT THE OPERA: Passion is an impossible dialogue in the afterworld between two people who have lived an impossible love; it calls forth dance through ‘movements of the soul’ which bring to life the vibrant and sensuous lament sung by Her and Him surrounded by a chorus – the Others. A fascinating face-to-face encounter between dance and music unfolds on stage, while the onlooker is drawn, in to the point of no longer distinguishing between dancer and singer. In Passion, Pascal Dusapin re-examines the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice through different writings, and above all the human passions translated musically by Monteverdi.
