August 1 marked the 89th anniversary of the establishment of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Military reforms over the past 12 months were intended to bring its organization and structure into the modern age, with Chinese President Xi Jinping looking for a unit that upholds the country’s status as a major power. To discuss the revamp, we talk to Xu Hui, Deputy Dean of the College of Defense Studies at the National Defense University of China, Zhang Junshe, Senior Captain and a researcher at the Nava
