One terrible day, he watches hopelessly as his wife and only child are murdered in front of his house by SASHA (Ivan Petrushinov), a sadistic drug dealer and brothel proprietor. Nikolai hunts down Sasha and his gang and shoots them, believing he has killed them all. 7 years later we find Nikolai in Los Angeles, still working as a mechanic, when a limo pulls up at his door. MARY ABRAMOFF wants to hire him to find her daughter, JULIA, who has been kidnapped by gangsters in Russia. The ransom is $5 million.. Nikolai initially turns down the job and the $500,000 fee, until he is shown a picture of the kidnapper. It is Sasha - the man who killed his wife and son. He immediately leaves for Russia. Arriving in St. Petersburg, he visits Gorelovo where he has haunting flashbacks of the murders. He meets up with BURTON (Ben Cross) who, despite having a drinking problem, becomes his partner in the search for Julia. They drive to Sasha’s club where Burton suspects she is being held -- he has a relationship with Natalya, one of Sasha’s prostitutes. When apprehended by a bouncer, Burton insists they make a run for it. They go to a remote location where they enroll more men and weapons which are necessary for the rescue mission to succeed . They take off for an apartment complex and get into a shootout that spills into the street as Nikolai and his men kill several of Sasha’s men. Sasha, badly scarred by Nikolai’s murderous revenge 7 years ago, is furious that Nikolai has returned. He now intends to initiate Julia (Olivia Lee) as a prostitute, but Nikolai’s team break into the club, just in time to rescue her. She is strung out on drugs, barely standing. Another fight ensues, but Nikolai and his men get away with her. Sasha interrogates Natalya (Maria Ilieva), one of his prostitutes and savagely beats her up; he thinks she will know where Nikolai is heading. Nikolai’s team are on the road and in very bad shape; Julia is still drugged and some of the men are badly injured, but they finally reach safety at the cottage of one of Nikolai’s army buddies, not far from the Finnish border. They must wait for daybreak for the border to open, and spend that evening in warm celebration of their victory so far. Julia has now recovered, and has learned to trust Nikolai. Comforting her, images of his dead wife and child continue to haunt him. At dawn Sacha and all his henchmen descend on the sleepy village, dragging Natalya and kicking her into the mud, where she dies. A savage battle to the death ensues. Finally Nikolai exacts his vengeance on his arch enemy. Burton, saddened by Natalya’s terrible fate, takes Julia to the Finnish border where her mother is waiting. Nikolai stays behind in Russia.
